Created for Good Works

We are not saved just so we can go to heaven when we die. Yes, that is very wonderful, and it is our goal to see Jesus there one day. However, we were saved to do good works. We came to know Christ, and now He is our Lord. We are His followers. We are to do what He has for us to do. Paul was inspired to explain this to us in a very specific way. (Ephesians 2:10) We are God's workmanship. He created us in Christ Jesus, and now we are new creatures. He did that so we would do good works, and He prepared those works beforehand. That way, He planned out what we should do as we live our Christian life. That is an exciting truth for all of us.

We are God's masterpiece. He made us into a new person when He saved us. He did this when we trusted Jesus, and we became a citizen of heaven. Now, we are to be like Jesus. What did Jesus do? He went about doing good works of all kinds. Which works did Jesus do? He did the ones the Father told Him to do. God had prepared those things for Jesus to do in advance, just like the cross. The Old Testament passages about Jesus' death, like Isaiah 53, show us that God prepared Jesus for the cross and the cross of Jesus, far in advance. He does the same thing for us, as believers. He knew when we would get saved. He knew our gifts and abilities, too. Therefore, He planned out all of our good works before we were saved. Now, it is up to us to trust Him and to ask Him each day to show us what He has planned for us to do. Then, we do it by faith in Him and in the power of the Spirit. God is watching to see how we do in doing these good works. That will be the main part of our Judgment Day, so we need to make this a priority.
