No Longer Slaves to Sin

Sin is a terrible problem for most people. People who are not believers are slaves to sin. They have no power to resist the temptation  The flesh is drawn to sin. Satan uses the desires of the flesh to entice us to sin, and without God's power we are helpless to stay away from it. However, God has a remedy for sin. It is not just a way to have our sins forgiven, as wonderful as that is. It is a way to be set free from sin's power. Paul explained it for us well. (Romans 6:6) When we put our trust in Jesus by repenting of our sins and surrendering to Jesus as Lord of our lives by faith in Him, our "old man" dies. Like Christ was crucified and died, our old man is put to death. Then, we are no longer slaves to sin. This is God's plan for us, as believers, so we do not have to live with the troubles caused by sin after we are forgiven.

Salvation is a drastic change for us. The old person we were before we were saved dies. We become a new person. (II Corinthians 5:17) The new person has the flesh, which is our human nature with it's drives and desires, but we no longer have a sinful nature leading us to sin. After salvation, we have the Holy Spirit in us to empower us and guide us. Therefore, when our flesh leads us to sin, we can resist and overcome that temptation, if we are walking in the Spirit. We can resist Satan, and he will flee from us. Yes, we will still sin at times, but we do not have to sin. We are no longer bound to sin. We have to choose to listen to Satan or the flesh and not to listen to the Spirit and not allow Him to help us. See what I mean. God has made a way for us to no longer be slaves to sin by the power of the Spirit. This is His provision so we can live an abundant life in Christ, no longer suffering the ravages of sin. I pray we will all understand this truth and walk in the Spirit, so we will not be harmed by sins constantly.
