Acceptable in God's Sight

I wonder what God thinks about our thoughts, words, and actions? I am afraid we would be surprised to find out exactly what He thinks. This is true even though the Holy Spirit lives in each of us, as believers, and He is convicting us of sin, righteousness, and judgment. We do not always listen to the Spirit or heed what He says to us for various reasons. Therefore, we need to make it a priority to make what we say and think acceptable to God. That was David's prayer to the Lord. (Psalm 19:14) I believe it would be a worthy prayer for each of us to pray every morning before we get into the activities of our day.

Words are powerful. The book of James tells us that words are like a fire that can destroy our relationships with other people and bring people low, instead of lifting them up. However, our words can also be very edifying to the people with whom we speak. We can build them up, not tear them down. That is why we need to makes sure our words are acceptable to God. He is the Judge of what is proper. Of course, to make sure that our words are acceptable, the thoughts of our heart must be acceptable first. Our words come out of our heart. That is why we must be meditating on the right things. We must be meditating on God's Word, day and night. (Psalm 1) All of this is possible, not in our own power, but because God is our Rock and our Redeemer. He can and will save us from our sins, and then, He will be the firm foundation, the Rock, upon which we can stand every day. We can base our lives on His strength and His love to empower every word and every thought of our hearts to be acceptable to Him.
