A Key Witness

We have all heard of court cases in which there was a key witness. The outcome of the verdict depended on the testimony of this witness. Often, the testimony of this witness was being an eyewitness to what was said and done. The apostle Paul was just such a key witness. (Acts 22:14,15) He was handpicked by God to be briefed on God's plan of salvation, and he even got to see the Risen Christ on the road to Damascus. Therefore, God had prepared him and was sending Paul to be that key witness to everyone he would meet, so he could tell them just what he had seen and heard. His testimony was what brought many people to know Jesus. This is true for every believer.

God chose us to be His witnesses once He knew we would trust Jesus as our Lord and Savior. That means being a witness is one of the main purposes of God saving us. Yes, we have our sins forgiven, and we receive eternal life, but those things are just the beginning. Then, we are familiar enough with the gospel to go to everyone we meet and tell them what we have seen and heard. Therefore, once we meet Jesus, we can tell others what happened to us, and they can have the same experience with Him and His saving grace. Just as Paul was gifted to reach the ones he would meet, we are all gifted to share our witness with our family, friends, neighbors, and others. It is such a privilege to know Jesus, but it carries this responsibility. We will all be His witnesses after salvation. We don't have a choice about that. Our choice is whether we will be a good witness or a bad one. Which will you be?
