Your Story

I think we can all understand why the man with a "mob" of demons possessing him would want to follow Jesus and His disciples after being changed so dramatically. After all, he was hopeless, miserable, hurting himself and others, but Jesus set him free. All the man wanted was to go and show his love for Jesus and learn more. However, when he went down to the boat to leave with Jesus and His disciples, Jesus told him, "No." Jesus told him to go home to his people and tell them His story - what the Master had done for him, how He had mercy on him. (Mark 5:19) Jesus tells us to do the same thing today.

Your story or your testimony, as it is called, is unique to you. Once we come to know the Lord, we have a story to tell everyone we meet. This is especially true for our family and the people who live around us. They are the ones who know us best. They can see the changes the Lord has made, even more than others. Plus, we can relate to them well. They have the same language and worldview that we had before being transformed inside out. That is why God sends us to tell our story. We do not have to know the whole Bible or be a theologian. We simply tell our story which no one can refute. This is just what our missionaries do in other cultures. When they lead one person to Christ, they send that person home to tell his or her story to those with whom they can relate best. I pray we will all heed Jesus' admonition to this man and see what happens.
