Guarding Against Evil

Most of the time David was sensitive to sin in his life. However, he knew what happened when he failed to guard again evil, too. It did not have good results, at all. Since David was a man after God's own heart, he learned from his sins, and he identified ways to guard himself from evil. (Psalm 141:3,4) I believe we can all profit from doing the same things that David learned to do in his life. After all, the times have changed, but evil is still the same, no matter what form it takes.

David knew that the tongue was an easy way for evil to come into our lives. That is why he asked God to set a watch or a guard at the door of his lips. David knew that no man can tame the tongue, we all need the Lord's help by the power of the Spirit to stop evil, corrupt words, from coming out of our mouths. David, also knew that if he allowed his mind to dwell on evil thoughts, he would end up sinning in some way. That is why we all need to ask God to not even let us dream of evil, much less focus on it in our daily thoughts. Also, he knew we need to think about each choice we make or we can thoughtlessly fall into bad company. I think we all know that bad company corrupts good morals and leads us to sin. Finally, David was so aware that evil people can lure us into evil by their sweet talk that we must constantly be on guard against those people and discern their reason for treating us so well. Then, we can avoid their evil trap. See what I mean. These are vital things for every believer to practice every day, so we can guard our lives from evil.
