God Didn't Leave You

When very bad things happen to us, it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that God is upset with us or that He has left us. It is true that sometimes God is angry with us because of our sins, and we need to confess them and repent for things to get better. If that is the case, He will make it plain to us. However, most of the time we are overreacting. We are worrying over something that is not true at all. That is what happened with Naomi, Ruth's mother-in-law. When she left Moab after the tragic deaths of her husband and sons, she thought God had ruined her life and things would never get better. Nothing could have been farther from the truth. Ruth married Boaz. They had a son, who was king David's grandfather. She had a wonderful family restored to her, her grandson was famous, and Ruth was such a blessing, more than 7 sons. (Ruth 4:14,15) What a turnaround! That is always possible for those of us who know the Lord.

Naomi was a believer, but she was depressed and grieving over her losses. She was ready to give up. However, God did not leave her. He had a great plan for her life. God used Ruth to bring about that plan, and all was well in the end. This was true because Ruth did not give up. She got out, and did the best she could to trust the Lord and do the right things. God opened the doors, led her to Boaz and a bright future. Now, we can either be like Naomi and stay down, or we can be like Ruth and keep going. Ruth was a new believers, but she did what she could do by gleaning in the fields, and God did the rest. Are you doing all you can do to be faithful to the Lord? Are you watching for what He is doing around you, so you can join Him in it? If we will do those things, we can have great blessings, even when it seems God has left us. He never leaves His children, and His way is always the best for us. We just have to be faithful one day at a time and watch to see what He does for His glory.
