Speaking God's Word

Balaam was a pagan prophet with a powerful reputation for being able to pronounce curses on people that really came to pass. Balak was the king of Moab. He was terribly afraid of the People of Israel as they approached his land. He called for Balaam to come and curse them, so he could defeat this huge nation of people at his border.  Even though Balaam was a pagan he had a great way of thinking about God, whatever God he usually called upon. He spoke all that God spoke to Him and only what God spoke to him. (Numbers 23:26) In this case he heard from the One True and Living God, and he delivered a blessing 3 times instead of a curse. We can all learn from this unusual occurrence in the Bible.

Today, we have God's Word written for us in 66 books which He inspired men to write for us, and He preserved for us as it was passed down to us. That is why we do not have prophets who tell us new things that add to the Bible. Now, what we are to do is to speak all God has spoken in His Word and only what God has spoken in His Word. That is a great challenge. There are many who want to only speak parts of what God has said. Then, there are others who seek to add to His Word by their interpretation of things. Both are terrible sins. One of the worst things we can do is to lead people astray from the Lord, and we do that when we do not stick strictly to God's Word. Let's make a commitment to the Lord to speak all the Bible and only what the Bible says, so we are true messengers of the Living God for all those around us.
