Two are Better than One

From the very beginning God intended for us to have family and friends to help us and support us. One of the first things that He showed Adam was that it is not good for a person to be alone. This is true for every living person. Now, some people are not meant to be married, and others cannot have children of their own. However, we can all have a true friend that sticks closer than a brother or sister. That is why Solomon observed how much better two are than just one. (Ecclesiastes 3:9,10,12) We all need to realize this truth. We need to pursue friendship and close family relationships, so we can enjoy the benefits.

The first benefit of having two people instead of just one is that their work together is much more than just one person. Two multiply the amount of work that can be done and even the quality of the work that is done. The next benefit is that if we fall, there is someone to pick us up. This applies to any problem we may have. It is so much easier to handle the challenges of life when we have a good companion. When we face them alone, it is very easy to get depressed. Finally, if we are attacked, two people can resist the attack so much better than one person. This goes for verbal attacks or physical attacks. It helps to have another to support us. Then, Solomon gave one last insight. That is three together are very strong. We can always benefit from as many friends as we can have. It makes us much stronger, especially when they are good Christian friends who pray for us.
