The Mighty of This World

I think sometimes we get the idea that this world is controlled by the mighty people and nations. Nothing could be farther from the truth. We are not at the mercy of the powerful people or the government. God is in control of all things, even the mighty of this world. Job knew that well. (Job 24:22, 23) I pray that Job's lesson for us here will keep us from living in fear or from feeling we have no power over the forces of this world.

God is very powerful, and He is able to drag away the mighty whenever He desires to do so. God is so much more powerful than any human being or group of humans, He can and will thwart their efforts at any time He decides to do so. We are not at the whims of the mighty people of this world. There is no conspiracy that is ruling the world, so that God is not able to lead the world as He desires. When God rises up, they have no assurance of life. Yes, He gives them a sense of security, because of their power and riches, but His eyes watch over their ways. They are not able to do anything outside the knowledge of God.

This is why we should not live in fear or in hopelessness. Instead, we must live in dependence on God. He is our Protector. He never sleeps, so we can sleep with peace. He is watching the whole world and all the mighty people all of the time. He  is ready to intervene in His way at exactly the right time and deliver those who follow Him. I pray we all have this assurance every day.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 25-27.
