Judge, Lawgiver, and King

Isaiah tells us three facts about God that impact our lives in many ways. (Isiah 33:22) These three aspects of God's character are also relevant for our form of government in the United States. I wonder how many people realize these things about God and about how our founding fathers used them for the basis of our republic. Let me show you what the Spirit inspired Isaiah to record for us.

God is our Judge. Our earthly life has a beginning and an end. When we come to the end, we will give an account of our lives to the Judge, and God will render His verdict about how we did in life to accomplish His will for us. He is the Only Judge that really matters, because His judgment is totally just and weighs all of our motives and actions well. God is also out Lawgiver. He created the laws of nature, and all of His laws are enforced by His authority and power. Therefore, we want to heed His laws and not break any of them. Finally, God is our king. He is the One who governs our lives in His wisdom and sovereignty. He is a benevolent ruler, but make no mistake, He is in charge of what happens in this world and the universe. Three aspects of God that work together seamlessly to carry out His character.

Now, do you see what these correspond to in our republic? We have 3 branches of government that are equal, but they work together in an order to benefit our citizens. We have the judicial branch, which are the courts and judges. There is the legislative branch that includes all of the lawmakers. Then, we have the executive branch, where the president and his cabinet work to govern the country and keep us safe. Our government is based on the nature of God, so that if these three branches work together well, we have the best form of government possible. God is so good!

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 34-36.
