Ordering Our Ways

How are we to plan what to do each day, each week, each month, and each year of our lives? The answer we give to that question determines how well our lives will go. It is essential for us to order our ways before the Lord. (II Chronicles 27:6) Then, we can become mighty in life, because God will grow us to be strong in Him. Let me explain.

When the Bible uses the phrase "before the Lord," it means while He is looking on, so that He can be part of the process. It means not hiding anything from the Lord. (Of course, we can't hide anything from Him, but sometimes we fool ourselves into thinking we can.) Therefore, if we order our ways before Him, we lay out what we are thinking, and we ask Him what He thinks before we make the decision. This is especially true when we plan. We only want to do His will in His way, so we have to lay it out before Him in prayer. Then, we listen for His answer. The answer may come from His Word, His Spirit may speak to our heart, or He might send someone to help us see the way clearly. We must be transparent with God, and then, we must be sensitive to His direction. At times, He gives us a lack of peace about what we want to do. We may not know why, but we know it is not the right way to go. Other times, He gives us a very clear word of exactly what to do. However, the more we practice ordering our ways before the Lord, the better we will get at discerning His way.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 28-30.
