The Angel of the Lord

Manoah and his wife were childless until the Angel of the Lord came to inform them they would have a special son, who would be a Nazarite from the womb. He came to Manoah's wife first, but then, he returned to meet with both of them and confirm His promise. At that time, Manoah made a burnt sacrifice upon a rock, and the Angel of the Lord ascended back to heaven in the flame. That showed Manoah that they had seen God, and they were overwhelmed by that reality. (Judges 13:20,22) This was an example of the Lord Jesus appearing as the Angel of the Lord before His incarnation.

Have you ever seen God? Not very many people have had that privilege, except when Jesus walked this earth for 30+ years. However, there were special occasions when Jesus did come down to meet with people to deliver an important message. That is why the Bible refers to Him as the Angel or messenger of the Lord. The message called for the Lord to deliver it Himself in those instances. The birth of Samson was one of those times, because Israel needed a strong judge to fight against the Philistines for them. God empowered Samson to do that. His story is unusual, but there was no doubt that God used Him against their enemies.

We may not see the Angel of the Lord in our lifetime. However, God can send a deliverer to us. It could be in a very unusual form or way. Let's not limit God. Let's cry out to Him and trust Him to do it His way. Whatever it is you need right now, I urge you to seek the Lord to grant you His deliverance by His power or by the person He would send. Then, trust God to do the right thing in your life.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 16-19.
