Save Me and Vindicate Me

David was in danger of being attacked by Saul's army, when the Ziphites went to Saul and told him where David was hiding. Many people thought David was wrong because the king wanted to kill him. Of course, Saul was disturbed mentally, and David had done nothing wrong. Therefore, David prayed for God to save him and to vindicate him.(Psalm 54:1) I think it is interesting for us to see how he asked God to do these things. I believe it could help us.

David asked God, "Save me, O God, by Your name." Why did he say that? I believe David wanted to be delivered by God's name, because he wanted everyone to see that God was on David's side. When we call on God's name, we want Him to personally act on our behalf because of who He is, not because of who we are. David wanted God to get the glory for his deliverance, and not be seen as being selfish or ambitious. That is the best way for us to be delivered, too.

Also, David asked, "Vindicate me by Your strength." In the same way, if God used His strength to deliver David, it would vindicate him, at the same time. People would see that David was not in the wrong, but Saul was trying to kill him out of jealousy. It is hard for us to change people's opinions about us, but God can do that by His strength acting on our behalf. God's vindication in His power is the only way to really be vindicated in everyone's eyes.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 55-58.
