The Mediator between God and Men

Christmas is our celebration of when God became a man. I know the Trinity is complicated, but think of it this way. God is so great and mighty that we can't comprehend the fullness of God. However, God wants us to know Him, so He had to explain Himself to us in three Persons, Father, Son, and Spirit. The Father stays on the throne in Heaven, the Spirit is everywhere, and the Son left Heaven to become a man, so He could be our Mediator and Savior.(I Timothy 2:5,6) There is only One God, but the three Persons show us the fullness of God. Let's consider our Mediator this morning.

A mediator is someone who is in between two people or two groups of people. Generally, the mediator's job is to bring agreement between those two parties in the best way possible. Therefore, it helps when the mediator cares for both sides and can relate to both sides. Then, a reasonable solution can be crafted by the mediator and accepted by both parties.

Jesus is the perfect Mediator to come between God and all men, because He is all of these things. Jesus left Heaven because of His love for all people. God is love. He became 100% human, except for the sinful nature, so He can relate to us and God completely. He worked out the perfect solution to our sin problem, which separated us from God by giving His blood and His life as a ransom payment for our sin debt. Therefore, our debt was paid in full by the Lord Jesus, and God accepted that payment. Only He could do that because He was fully man and fully God. Then, He extended the offer of salvation to us, if we would surrender to Him as Lord of our lives who died for us on the Cross. If we surrender in faith, He applies His payment to our account freely without us doing any works, so that we have salvation by grace through faith.

This truth of Jesus as our Mediator ought to cause us another reason to celebrate His birth this Christmas. If you have never known His love and forgiveness, surrender to Him this Christmas season. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Timothy 5-6 and II Timothy 1.
