Destroyed as a People

In the course of history many nations have risen and fallen. Some people groups have completely disappeared. Why does this happen? God is working to show Himself to all nations, and when a nation rejects God and exalts itself against God, sometimes, He destroys that nation as a people, like He did the nation of Moab.(Jeremiah 48:42) When was the last time we heard a news report about Moab? Well, we are not going to hear one because they are gone.

The United States is a large powerful nation, but God is more powerful. If we, as a people, decide to exalt our nation against God, that could lead to our destruction as a people. When our country was founded, the leaders set it up and declared that we had certain rights given to us by our Creator, by God. Now, we see the government bestowing and withdrawing rights. We see the government limiting the rights of people who worship the One True God, while other religions are left alone. Could this be exalting the nation against God? I believe we are guilty of that or at least, we are dangerously close to doing what Moab did and receiving what Moab received. It is impossible to read the prophecies of Jeremiah against the nations around Judah and not see that God judges nations. We, as Christians, need to faithfully intercede for our nation and call us all back to the Lord, or we could see our destruction as a people.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 49-51.
