Christian Stewardship

Once we become believers in Jesus Christ, we belong to God's Kingdom. That means our lives are part of something much bigger than ourselves and our families. We live by faith in Christ to accomplish His will for us and for those around us. This applies to how we manage the money that God gives us, too. We are to trust Him in how we spend our money. Then, He can bless us with more than enough to meet our needs. Haggai knew this principle in his days in the Old Testament, too.(Haggai 1:9)

If we fail to trust God with our money and use it for His work in the way desires for us to, He can cause our money to diminish or vanish. If we do obey Him, He can multiply what we have. The key is that we do not want to be fighting against God when it comes to money or anything else.

Believers are God's stewards of His resources for His work. He expects us to support His mission in the world. In Haggai's day it was building the Temple. Now, it is His church and the spread of the gospel around the world.  Our lack of faith in giving shows an overall lack of faith in the Lord. God knows our hearts. He shows us what to do, and if we do not follow Him, He knows how to show us what is important.

Christian stewardship is part of our worship. It shows how much God is worth to us. It shows that we trust His Word. It shows that we have a heart for His work. It shows our priorities. We can tell a lot about our relationship with God by how we spend our money.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Zechariah 2-4.
