Feasting on God's Word
Many people derive great pleasure and satisfaction from eating a nice meal. They look forward to where and when they will eat with anticipation, and they spend a lot of money pursuing a good meal. However, the satisfaction is very temporary, and it has no spiritual benefit. Jeremiah found a much better meal, the Word of God. When He ate it, he experienced joy and rejoicing in the midst of a very terrible time in the life of God's people.(Jeremiah 15:16) We can learn a great truth from this verse.
When we become a believer, one called by God's name, we will desire to know Him more and more. His Word will become very important to us. It is the way we come to know Him more and more. There is great joy and peace in knowing the Lord of Hosts. There is great stability in a life that is based on His truth. Practicing God's Word brings eternal benefits, not just temporary satisfaction.
I would urge each of us to sit down daily to feast on God's Word. As we consume it, we decide to live by it. Just like food gives us energy for life, the Word of God gives us the fuel to build a life that honors God. He honors those who honor Him with their lives. When we receive His blessing, we have true joy, so that we can go on rejoicing in the midst of a society that is crumbling around us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 16-18.
