The Consequences of a Lie

When David fled from Saul in fear of his life, he tried to protect himself in his own wisdom, which led him to lie and to fake insanity. He did not seek the Lord's will in what he should do. This sin of lying and deception caused the death of dozens of people.(I Samuel 22:22) Lying is always a sin, and it always effects more people than just the liar, himself.

After starting out so badly, David realized what he had done. He started listening to the Lord and doing things God's way. We all should do the same thing, when we fall into any sin. We should confess our sins, like David did. We should repent of our sins and begin to seek God's way and live in it. Once David did that his life changed drastically. God blessed him and protected him in His way. As we continue to read about David's life, we will find he lapsed back into this pattern of lying. He had to keep confessing and repenting. Read Psalm 51. His willingness to confess and repent of sin was one reason David is called a man after God's own heart. God knows our weaknesses. He wants to help us with them, but He can't if we won't admit them and ask for His help.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 24-26.
