Sin Changes Everything

Lucifer was created by God. He was perfect from the day of his creation.(Ezekiel 28:15) Then, sin came, and that changed everything. Now, he is Satan, and that perfect being who served God around His throne will never exist again. What a change sin made!

The prophet, Ezekiel, gave us a lot of insight into Satan, when he delivered God's lamentation to the king of Tyre in chapter 28. I don't know if he knew he was delivering a message about Lucifer, too, but he was. Isaiah 14 gives us the rest of the story, including the name, Lucifer, which means, "light bearer." He was perfect in beauty and full of wisdom. He lived in a perfect place, heaven. He led the worship around the throne of God with wonderful music, but there was one problem. He decided he wanted some of God's glory. He was lifted up by pride, and he wanted to be worshiped. When he rebelled, one third of the angels agreed with him, and they all were cast down from heaven, and they were no longer perfect in any way.

All of this came because God gave them a choice to worship and serve Him. In His perfect wisdom, He did not make a way of salvation for the angels, perhaps because they lived in a perfect place with every opportunity to know God and serve Him directly. However, sin changed all of that. The rest is history. Sin has infected the whole world. Sin changes everything. The wages of sin is death.

Therefore, God did not create sin. He did not want sin. What He desired was for His creation to worship Him willingly and freely. That is real love and worship. However, when sin comes, our love for God is clouded, and we are cut off from Him. We must repent of the sin, which means to realize its destructive power and to change our direction. Then, we trust Christ who died to pay the ultimate penalty for the sins of the world. That takes care of the effects of sin, and brings salvation from sin. We must continue to hate sin, even after salvation comes, because it still changes everything. We can't walk with God and walk in sin at the same time. We must be vigilant to confess it and repent of it when we sin, so we can know Him and have the life He intends by loving Him and trusting Him freely.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 30-32.
