Leadership and Humility

Many people have a skewed idea of what it takes to be a great leader. Unfortunately, they believe that a great leader needs to be self-confident and have a powerful personality. Neither of those things has to be true. Moses is the proof. Moses led over 2 million people out of Egypt after they had been slaves for hundreds of years. He led them through the wilderness for over 40 years. He solved their problems, and took them to the edge of the Promised Land. All of this without being self-confident or having a powerful personality.

In fact, Moses was the opposite of these two things. He was so self conscious of his public speaking that God had to send Aaron to be his spokesman. He was not an imposing figure, either. The Bible says that he was the most humble person on earth.(Numbers 12:3)His confidence was in the Lord, not in himself. He went to the Lord when he needed power. He knew he was very lacking in power. However, he ranks with the greatest leaders of all times.

I hope we can all see that a godly leader is the best kind of leader. Jesus, Himself, led by example. He trusted in the Father to lead Him. He sought power from the Father. He humbled Himself to die on the cross for us. Jesus was the greatest leader, and He was the most humble person of all time, when you consider all that He was willing to go through for our good. We all should should aspire to be humble leaders, like Jesus and Moses.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 14-17.
