True Love

Something mysterious happens when we fall in love with another person. This is especially true when it is the person we are to marry. Our lives change for the better in such a way that we know contentment in a way we have never experienced it before. It is enough to hear their voice on the phone or to simply be in the same room with them. Time seems to fly by, because we are consumed with the one we love.

Jacob experienced true love for Rachel. Genesis 29:20 puts it this way, "So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed only a few days to him, because of the love he had for her." It is a glorious feeling, but it is so much more than a feeling. It is a commitment. It is a oneness of heart and soul that brings two people together in real happiness. I pray that you have known true love.

God designed the marriage relationship of one man and one woman committed to each other as companions for life, as a little bit of heaven on earth. It is not all roses. That is not what I mean. I mean that when we experience true love, it gives us a glimpse into how much Christ loves us. It gives us a little taste of what we will experience in heaven, as we are able to love the Lord and other people with a perfect love. God is so good, and one of the best things He ever did was to give us the ability to give and to receive true love.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 30-32.
