The Tribulations of Life

A lot of people I meet want God to help them by making their lives easy. They think they will be happy if everything is easy, and all goes well. They look at problems as the source of sorrow and pain, so they don't like them at all. I am afraid they are missing the main thing that makes us happy.

My theory, which is based on what the Bible says, is that troubles and problems are for our good.(James 1) God allows them to cause us to have to depend on Him. In the process of depending on Him, we find out how great He is. Our relationship with Him grows more intimate, and our happiness grows as well. In fact, God is the One who gives us the greatest kind of happiness in all areas of life, when we just stop trusting ourselves and trust Him.

Let me give you one example. What happens when you depend on God to show you the right spouse? Looking for the right person causes many people a lot of frustrations and trials. Some people choose the wrong one, because they do not follow the Lord's direction. However, when you get the right spouse, does everything just end up all happiness forever? No. It is only when two people grow together through their problems that they have real happiness. Therefore, it is a life-long process of overcoming the problems together by following the Lord that brings real happiness in marriage. Anything else has a lot of pain and conflict, because of selfishness and pride.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 10-13.
