Lying

Lying is a huge problem for many people. I think it is kind of left over from childhood. They think that as long as they can lie about something, so others do not know the truth, they can get away with doing the wrong thing. At other times, they think they can get out of being punished by lying. Of course, we know that is never the case. Lying is always wrong, and it is always punished.

Some people lie to themselves. They convince themselves that what is wrong is right or at least, it is OK. They practice some situational ethics, or they believe the laws that apply to others do not apply to them. This is some of the worst lying, because soon they won't be able to tell the truth from the lie. They reprogram their hearts and minds to accept falsehood as being truth.

Then, there are those who lie to the preacher. They think as long as the preacher doesn't know, God doesn't know. Let me fill you in on something. God knows it all, and it doesn't matter what the preacher knows. Usually, these folks put on a good show for the preacher, and they must think they are fooling God, as well. They are going to be very surprised to learn that God knows it all, and He has a record of all of it. They will have to answer for all of those lies one day.

Remember, what Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no one comes to the Father, but through Me." If a person is a Christian, his life will be characterized by truth, because Jesus is the Truth. In fact, the Bible is very clear that "everyone who loves and practices lying" will not be in heaven.(Revelation 22:15) Habitual lying is not just a sin, but it is a sign that the Truth does not live in a person.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ecclesiastes 6-8.
