Trusting in God's Power, instead of Man's Power - Isaiah 30-31 and Philippians 4

In these two chapters we read Isaiah's admonition from the Lord to Israel not to go to Egypt seeking help against Assyria, but to trust in the Lord for His help. Israel did not listen to the Lord, because of their hard hearts and worldly thinking. The same is true of most people today. Many people trust in the power of the military and in the economy, instead of trusting in the Lord and His ways. God's message to all of us is that if we trust in the power of man, we will fail to accomplish His will, and He will not bless us. However, He told Israel that once they cried out to Him, He would hear them and respond. That is God's nature. He wants to help those who will humble themselves and call on Him. We need to learn from Israel's mistakes and trust God.

Paul was very clear in Philippians 4. He said that we must not worry. We must take everything to the Lord in prayer. Then, we can have peace from the Lord, because we can know that He will take care of the situation, and He will guard our hearts. In fact, Paul had come to realize that he could do all things through Christ and His strength. Worry is a lack of trusting in God's power. Worry is trying to figure out what to do in human power. Worry does not work. Instead, we are to pray for God's direction and provision. Then, we do what He directs us to do. Sometimes, He uses human means to solve our problems, but the answer still comes from Him. He is the Source of all we need, and He does it all so well. Whatever it might be that you find yourself facing today, take it to the Lord. Let Him work it out. His way is always the best. His power is complete, and His love for us is perfect.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 32-33 and Colossians 1.
