God's Plan for the Ages - Psalms 110-112 and I Corinthians 5

Psalm 110 is a Messianic psalm that reminds us that God is working His plan for this world. He sent Jesus to provide redemption for the sins of the world, and then, Jesus went to sit at the right hand of the Father. Now, God is in the process of bringing all of the enemies of Christ under His feet. This plan will culminate in Jesus reigning from Jerusalem for 1,000 years. As we read this psalm, it is clear that God will work His plan and no earthly king or leader will stand in His way. They world consists of two groups of people, God's enemies and His disciples. The enemies will be crushed and the disciples will be blessed. Each of us has to choose whether we will be an enemy or a disciple.

The church is a part of God's plan for the ages. The church consists of all believers, but these disciples are gathered together in local groups of believers. Each particular church is to submit to the plan of God by carrying out the Great Commission to make more disciples. In the process the church must remain pure and true to the Lord. The church in Corinth was having a serious problem with this. They were thinking that a disciple could live in sin and God's grace would forgive that sin. They were very wrong. We can't live like enemies and be used by God to carry out His plan. We must be disciples. Therefore, Paul told them to put the man who was committing sexual immorality out of the body until he repented. Of course, that same practice would hold true of anyone who was living as an enemy of God, because a little sin spreads to the rest of the church. The church is here to make an impact on the world, and to do that we must be different. We must show people that Jesus saves us from sin and gives us the power to live for Him. We are a part of God's plan for the ages. We must see the seriousness of living as a disciple instead of living as an enemy of God.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 113-115 and I Corinthians 6.
