Jesus is the Ultimate Prophet - Deuteronomy 17-19 and Mark 13:1-20

Jesus is much more than a prophet, but He is the Ultimate Prophet. He speaks forth the Word of God like none other, because He is God. In fact, He is the Living Word of God. (John 1:1, 14) It is very interesting that Moses told the people that God would send a "Prophet like me." He told them that God would raise Him up from their brothers. Then, He said that they should listen to Him. This brings up several important points. First of all, Moses was a prophet, himself. God used him to speak forth His Word, and He used Him to write His Word. Moses was able to give specific instructions from God that were always correct. That is the mark of a true prophet. Even in Deuteronomy 17-19 we read many of these specific truths about judging, ruling, and spiritual wickedness. Moses could only say those things because they came from God. We need to listen closely to all he said.

However, he foretold another Prophet. I believe He was pointing to Jesus. He would be the Ultimate Prophet to reveal God's Word. As we read Mark 13, we should keep this in mind. Jesus is revealing the future to us. That is part of what a prophet does. He was very specific, and everything He said will come to pass. There will be a terrible time of tribulation, and each of us must be ready for that time. We must be ready to depend on His Spirit any time we are called on to face persecution. We must not be deceived into believing in any of the false Christs that will come. Isn't it amazing to consider? We have the Words of Christ, the Ultimate Prophet, written in a book, so that we can study them and obey them. What a miracle! What a responsibility to hear what He said to us! Each of us must be careful to hear the whole Word of God, because it is all inspired. We must especially realize the special insights that Jesus gave while He was here in this world to lead Israel to God and to reveal God to the whole world. Let's not miss anything He said. Let's hear it and do it.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 20-22 and Mark 13:21-37.
