December 30, 2006 - Zechariah 13-14 and Revelation 21

Some people live their lives as if they will live forever in this world. They act like things will never change from the way they are now. That is a terrible misconception of life. In fact, it is Satan's way of keeping us from preparing for eternity. This earth is not eternal. There is going to be a radical change one day. Both Zechariah and John make this very clear. I pray that each of us will consider eternity as we read these passages today.

As we read in Revelation, God will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem. (14:2) At that time Jesus will return to stop the battle before it starts. When His foot touches the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem, the mountain will split from east to west. (14:4) That should get every one's attention. The Lord Jesus and His saints will arrive back to earth in that glorious fashion. (14:7) Things will be different from that day on. What happens before this? Could there be a nuclear attack or is it just a regular plague from the Lord? (14:12) I don't know for certain, but it is very similar to the effects of radiation poisoning, isn't it? It will effect the animals, too. (14:15) The main thing is to see that Jesus will come and thing s will be different. Are you ready for eternity?

Revelation 21 tells us about the radical changes that are coming. There will be a new heaven and a new earth. (v.1) God has prepared a place for all believers from all times to live for eternity, the New Jerusalem. It is a gloriously perfect place. (v.2) There will not be any need for a Temple or for any light there, because the Lord Himself is there. He is the light and the focus of all of the worship for eternity. God will make all things new.(v.5) That is, He will make all things new for those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. (v.27) The others have already been sent to the Lake of fire. Therefore, we must be sure that our names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. Can you be sure? Yes. If you know Christ, and He has changed your life in a supernatural way by giving you His Spirit and His Life, then, you can be sure that your name is written there. If you know the Lord, you will know it. There is no way to forget meeting Him and knowing Him. If you don't know Him today, call out to Him, and trust Him as Lord. Become a disciple of Jesus by putting your life in His hands, leaving all, and following Him.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Malachi and Revelation 22.
