August 26, 2006 - Psalm 119:89-176 and I Corinthians 8

The writer of Psalm 119 clearly wants us to know that even though he has dedicated himself to knowing God's Word, he still has problems. He still has to deal with enemies, people who are proud, and those who do not believe in God. His life is full of challenges, but he has God's Word to guide him in the right way, in the way of truth. He is not perfect. Sometimes, he strays from God's commands, but he asks God to forgive him. Then, he continues seeking God through His Word. This is a picture of what a disciple should do. We can't live in our own wisdom. We need God's wisdom every step of the way. Have you come to that realization in your life? How have you changed your lifestyle so you can seek the Lord in a meaningful way each day?

Paul teaches all of us a very important principle in I Corinthians 8. Even though knowledge is important, it is love that is most important. We can never have all knowledge. We can't ever possess all of the information we need to handle every situation that might come up. However, we can always do the right thing, if we exercise unselfish love toward God and others in each situation. In fact, if we had all the knowledge, that is what we would have learned. It is always right to act in a way that shows our love for the Lord and our love for others. How are you doing with this principle? Sometimes, do you give in and do something that is not done in love, because you are in a hurry or you are frustrated? Maybe, you actually think that it is good to be hateful and spiteful sometimes. You are wrong. It is always a sin. Let God teach you this principle. It will be a great blessing to you.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 120-122 and I Corinthians 9.
