February 15, 2006 - Leviticus 17-18 and Matthew 27:27-50

This passage in Leviticus shows us the holiness of God and how He wants believers to be holy, too. This passage shows us some things that are special to God. What is special to God should be special for us as believers. We should want to honor what He honors and hate what He hates. Allow God to speak to you about these things as you read this passage.

Leviticus 17 shows us that God honors life. He was telling the Israelites not to take the life of any animal unless it was a sacrifice to Him or for food. He told them not to eat blood, because the life is in the blood. All of this is to stress that life comes from God, and we as humans, are not to take the life God has given lightly. However, it has always been the tendency for man to devalue life. Murder has been a problem since Cain and Abel. God hates the sin of bloodshed. He will punish any person who takes an innocent life, and He will punish any nation that is guilty of the sin of bloodshed.

Leviticus 18 deals with sexual sins and sexual purity. God created sex to be between a man and a woman in marriage as an expression of the one flesh relationship. Any other use of it is a sin. This passage outlines the perversions of the sexual relationship that man has created with Satan's help. God hates them, because He values marriage. He will not allow any person or any country to engage in sexual immorality without receiving His punishment. It is a serious sin. It is not just a pleasurable activity.

Therefore, what is your conclusion about America after reading these chapters? God judged Egypt and Canaan because they committed these sins. Will He judge America? Is He already judging America for these sins? I believe God is already punishing America, because we have taken innocent lives in abortion and in murder, and we have condoned and even promoted sexual immorality. If we do not turn to Jesus for forgiveness, these sins will destroy our country. Please, pray for a great revival to sweep out land.

Matthew 27 is such a humbling passage when you read it against the backdrop of Leviticus. Jesus died for me and you. Jesus died for murders and for those who commit sexual immorality. He died for the sins of the world, because He loves all of us. He was perfect. He did not deserve to die. He gave Himself for us that we might be forgiven. However, that forgiveness is not automatic. We must turn from sin to turn to Him. We must surrender to Him in faith as our Lord. We can't do anything to save ourselves, but we must admit that He is Lord, and He is the only one who can save us from sin. Then, Jesus will forgive. He can't overlook sin, because He is holy. God's plan of salvation is the perfect blend of holiness and love. I pray that you have come to experience His love by turning from your sin and turning to Jesus as Lord.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 19-20 and Matthew 27:51-66.
