January 1, 2006 - Genesis 1-2 and Matthew 1

Happy New Year to all of you! I pray that you will have a close love relationship with the Lord Jesus that is real and personal every day of 2006. I hope this web log will be a blessing to you as you seek to know God more intimately through His Word. I am excited about the opportunity we have to grow in the Lord together.

If there is one truth from Genesis 1 and 2 that we need today, it is that God is in control. He created everything, and He knew what He was doing then. He knows what He is doing now. We can trust Him in everything.

As humans, he wants us to have dominion over creation in the sense that we manage the creation. For us that means that we are to consider what God wants us to do with our lives and with what He gives us, and do it. We should not be controlled by life, we should have control of our lives with God's power and blessing. Do you feel that your life is out of control? That is not God's will. He wants you to have dominion. He wants you to take charge of your life under His direction. To do that you must be in touch with Him all the time. You must follow His Word and His Will. That is why we have an unhurried time with the Lord each day. It has to be each day, or life will take over instead of God leading us.

God does not want you to be lonely or alone. He made Eve for Adam. He has a spouse or a close friend for you. He has a church family for you. He wants us to live in relationship with others. That is one way we are made in God's image. We can have relationships. I pray that all of your relationships will be healthy, loving relationships. That is God's will. Let Him show you how to do this. I repeat; He does not want you to be alone. If you are, there is something out of whack in your life.

Finally, in Matthew 1 God shows us that He loves us all. Jesus's genealogy has all kinds of people in it, because God loves all kinds of people. The truth is that God sent Jesus to save us from our sins, and to give us the abundant life. Jesus means "God Saves." Do you know that Jesus loves you? Don't doubt Him. Don't listen to Satan's lies. Let Him save you. Repent, turn from your sins, put your faith in Jesus, because He died on the Cross for you, and ask Him to be Lord in your life. That means surrender your life to Jesus. That is the first step to having real life. It is not the end, but the beginning. Let me know if I can help you take that step.

Does that give you some things to think about as we start 2006? I hope it does. Read this passage, and let God speak to you by His Spirit. Do what He tells you to do today and every day. God will honor your heart, if it is set on loving Him and obeying Him out of love.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 3-5 and Matthew 2.
