September 12 - Ezekiel 46-48

As we come to the end of the book of Ezekiel, I would like to point out the last verse. It tells us that the name of the city will be "The Lord is There." I think this points to the millenial reign of Christ. It is a great truth for the Jewish people to understand and for us. God's presence was in the Old Testament Temples, and in this future Temple the Lord will come back to be there, too. We know that means the Second Coming of Christ. The Jews don't realize that now, but it tells them that the Lord has not totally forgotten them. He still loves them. In fact, Jesus wants a close relationship with each person in the world. That is His nature to want to be with us.

Then, look at the river in chapter 47. It sounds a lot like the Tree of Life and the River of Life in heaven doesn't it?The millenial reign of Christ on the earth will be a lot like heaven for the people who are there. One way it will be like heaven is that people will live a long time. It could be that the river and the trees are God's way of sustaining that long life. However, both of them show us that all healing and life comes from God and His presence. They flow from His throne. If you want real life and complete healing, you must come to the Lord. He can forgive your sins and give you eternal life in heaven, where you will have an eternal body.

In chapter 46 Ezekiel is shown more about the prince and the sacrifices. The fact that the prince has sons could mean that he is not Christ. (v.16) However, the sons could refer to other believers instead of biological sons. In any event it is significant to me that a lamb is to be offered each day in the Temple. Of course, Christ is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. This is very appropriate for the millenium, when people from all over the world will come to the Temple to worship God. As I said yesterday, it would be a way of teaching how Christ is the fulfillment of all of the Old Testament and drawing all of God's Word together. I praise the Lord that He overcame Satan, sin, and death by the blood of the Lamb.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Daniel 1-3.
