June 3 - Psalms 63-66

These four psalms emphasize praising God, but they also give us some other insights that are very important. We must remember that praise for the Lord should be continually in our hearts, and then, it will be easy for us to allow it to flow out of our mouths. If we are filled with praise for the Lord all the time, we will always be ready to worship together with other believers. David affirms his desire to praise God and to worship in His Temple over and over in the Psalms. I hope you can affirm these same things in your heart and life.

Psalm 63 is a picture of David's relationship with God. He begins his day by seeking the Lord "early." I believe that refers to taking time with the Lord before doing other things because he speaks about how he thirsts for God. Then, he tells us that he looked for God in the sanctuary, which is a reference to going to the Temple for worship. Finally, David tells us that he meditates on the Lord during the night while he is in bed. All day long David's thoughts were focused on the Lord. That is a great testimony for all of us. If a king can do it, so can we.

Then, in Psalm 66 he ends up with an important truth. David reminds us that if we regard iniquity in our hearts, God will not hear us. This refers to unconfessed sin. God is not inclined to hear and to answer our prayers if we have sin in our hearts that He has shown us, and which we need to confess to Him. He is waiting for us to confess that sin, before we go on to something else. That is why it is so important for us to listen to the Holy Spirit and to practice confession of sin on a daily basis.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 67-69.
